How Often Should You Service Your Boiler? A Kent Engineer's Answer

You should service your boiler once a year, without exception whether it's brand new or fifteen years old.

Why annually?

• Warranty protection: most manufacturers require proof of annual servicing to keep your warranty valid. Skip a year, and you could invalidate cover on a boiler that's still relatively new.

• Safety: an annual service checks for carbon monoxide risks, gas leaks, and correct ventilation, these are safety issues, not just performance ones, and they can develop silently between services.

• Efficiency: a serviced boiler runs more efficiently, which directly affects your energy bills. A neglected boiler gradually loses efficiency even if it seems to be working fine.

• Catching small issues early: most expensive boiler repairs start out as small, cheap-to-fix issues that simply weren't caught in time.

What happens if you skip a year? Nothing dramatic happens immediately but you're running blind on both safety and efficiency, and if something does go wrong, you may find your warranty doesn't cover it, and the repair costs more than it would have if caught during a routine service.

When to book: the best time is during the summer months when demand (and therefore waiting times) is lower but we offer year round servicing, so there's no bad time to get it sorted if you're overdue.
